The Humble Orange
We spend a lot of time talking about the benefits of some of our more unusual and less well known ingredients but it’s important to remember all the health benefits of some of our more common ingredients. The perfect example of this is the humble orange. Now we all know oranges are a great source of vitamin C and have a great taste profile but did you also know oranges…
Boosts Immune System: In addition to Vitamin C oranges also contain vitamin A, folate and copper, all of which in help keep your immune system in great shape.
Lower Cholesterol: Oranges do not contain any cholesterol, but they can lower the levels of cholesterol in your body. Vitamin C neutralizes the free radicals that oxidize cholesterol, which is what makes it stick to the artery walls.
Lowers Blood Pressure: The herperidin flavanone found in oranges can lower high blood pressure. Herperidin is located in the white pulpy part between the inner orange flesh and the outer skin.
Regulates Blood Sugar: Oranges are high in fiber, which keeps blood sugar levels low. Fructose, the natural sugar found in oranges, prevents blood sugar levels from spiking after eating.
Radiant Skin: The beta-carotene in oranges prevents free radicals that damage skin. So eat lots of oranges to have healthy, clean skin.
